Hola Sevilla!: Bull Fighting; Excursion to Bull Ring; and Cathedral!

So the bull fight in Spain was an amazing culture experience! A group of us went together it was truly something cool to go to. For every bull fight there are six bulls they traditionally kill. This tradition has been going on since the 1700s. A family will give their bull to the ring and will in exchange get money for the bull. Some families could make between 15,000 euros to 60, 000 euros for one bull! So the bull fight will first start off with a bull getting taunted. The guys in the pictures below hold pink and yellow capes so they could distract and taunt the bull. After the bull is upset a fully clothed and protected horse will come out with a person with a spear. The guys on foot will bring the bull closer to the horse with the use of the capes and they will have him close enough so the guy on the horse can stab him once. I know this sounds horrible but it's part of culture. After the bull is stabbed and weakened a couple of times the last matador will come out and stab the bull with "hooks" They will do this with the red cape in their hand and then eventually they will taunt the bull enough to be able to stab him in the brains and the fight will be over. The Matador has 20 minutes to do this. Game on! Below you will see a ton of pictures and the steps I described above of what happens in the fight.

*If the fight is really good the crowd will wave white hankercheifs in their hands; if the bull isn't putting up a good fight the crowd gestures to take the bull off the ring. We actually got to experience a bull like that and he was herded off with other bulls.
