Prague

So Spring Break happened so quick! It was an incredible adventure! And now being back in Sevilla for about a week and having shitty internet again it was hard to update my blog! And so much keeps happening too so i don't want to fall behind... I apologize for my lack of urgency to put up pictures! Let me start off with Prague which was our first stop on Spring Break. We arrived at Prague and right away changed our money! We felt rich we were holding 200 and 100 bills but compared to American Money they were about at most only $50. Crazyness! The first night we checked into our hostel. Blind Eye Hostel and we dropped off our bags before grabbing dinner at this delish place right up the road where our hostel had recommended to go. We had Kabassa, soup and potatos! Such delicious food! After eating we headed back to our hostel to get some sleep because we had a busy next day! We made our way to the center of the city and as we were walking we explored the currently set up EASTER markets! They were wonderful. A ton of easter eggs were set up and displayed in various different colors and there were also many different tents filled with goodies like sausages, donuts, or wine! But we didn't quite indulge in all that goodness yet because we had our tour of the city firsT! Our tour guide was pretty awesome, his name was Karel. He was very spirited when talking about Prague. He first started us off in the main center where the Astronomical clock is! He explained to us how when Prague was hit in WWII this survived the bombings. He also pointed out to us how at every hour the clock goes off and they play some music and have a little procession come out of the clock! Then we passed some neat places like where the movie Amadeus was filmed! (one of my fav. movies to watch in Orchestra:] ) and then we walked through the Jewish area, got some lunch at Bohemia Bagel, and made our way to the Filharmonic Orchestra house and our tour guide discussed some neat things about the Charles Bridge and what was on the otherside of the Bridge. As he explained to us the Prague castle we were already planning our following day. He also touched upon Communist actions such as the television babies that were placed on the Television tower in Prague and represented the rise and fall of communism and also represents the lack of individuality in society because of television. That is represented by the barcode eyes they had. Karel told us that there were three babies that we could view on the otherside of the Charles Bridge. After our tour we browsed back through town and also to the show house to try to get tickets for a ballet or opera. When we finally reached there unfortunately all the ballets were sold out so instead we bought Tickets for an Italian opera taht we planned to go to that night. After a long day we eventually headed back to the hostel to get dinner then get ready to go to the opera! The opera house was beautiful and the opera itself was very beautiful as well. We read a synopsis on the opera before going because it was going to be in Italian and as much as i would like to say Rome helped me out with Italian they just speak so quick! I can't keep up haha.

The next day in Prague we decided to explore the city on our own. We did most our solvenier shopping on this day. We also had on our iternery the otherside of the river like the John Lennon Wall, The TV Babies, Prague Castle, and the Charles Bridge itself. As we made our way across the Charles Bridge we noticed many different statues and people. Some of them we didn't understand why people were doing certain things like a statue that everyone who passed it touched. We joined along! why don't know why though. Our first destination of the day was the John Lennon wall which was constructed as a revolt against communist ideas. After John Lennon died in 1980 people came to this wall and decorated it with anti communist design! A lot was represented by Lennon's music because communists had banned Czechs from listening or expressing themselves through this. The wall was one of my favorite things to see of the whole trip. There are so many different layers of the wall and so much history behind each one. I got the current graffiti but I know there used to be pictures of John lennon himself at one point. It was soo cool! After the Lennon wall we made a pit stop at Starbucks to regain some sensation in our fingers! It was colder than we'd been used too! After Starbucks we headed to the Prague Castle. The view from the hill (where the castle is located) was stunning. At this point the sun had just decided to come out too so we were able to get such a neat picture of Prague! We also were able to see a beautiful cathedral with glass stained windows! it was beautiful! On our way down from the Castle we got a falafa! and then headed to the Tv babies! (as i explained earlier) They were so cool. At this point I had also purchased my painted easter egg! :) then we crossed back over the Charles Bridge and caught a quick tradition dancing show in the city center.

The last morning in Prague was Easter morning! So we got breakfast at Bohemian Bagel and then headed to St. James Church for mass. Of course the procession was in Czech but it was still a beautiful church and Easter mass was wonderful. After church we headed back to our hostel then to our bus stop to catch our bus to Vienna! On our way to Vienna it started to snow! I loved Prague so much. I definitely want to go back sometime! Check out my pictures below and my next post about Vienna! xox, kimm
